FOR SHAGHAYEGH

help her to get from Iran to France

Hi, I'm Shaghayegh!

During the Mahsa Amini uprising I lost everything. Now I try once more to make my dream of getting to France come true.

Two years ago, I decided to go to France and take part in a yearlong language course. Motivated by my love for the French language, I worked hard to save enough money. I also took French classes in Iran to prepare for my stay in the new country and improve my French as well as my chances of getting a visa.

But by the end of the summer of 2022, everything had changed. After the killing of Mahsa Amini, the "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprising began and things in Iran deteriorated quickly. I think you can imagine my situation at that time as a modern and freedom-loving woman. In the winter of 2023, one of my friends was arrested for participating in the protests. We asked everyone for help to raise the money needed for a lawyer and to bail him out of prison. My husband and I contributed our entire savings and I also raised money from friends outside Iran.

When my friend was finally released from prison on bail, questions were asked about the money raised for his release. The account that received donations from outside Iran was in my name. Soon, I received threats and was forced to leave Tehran. I lost everything: my home, my savings, my job, my life in Tehran, my piece of mind.

I fled to a very small city in Iran. I have 13 years of work experience in public relations, but there is no company here I could work for. As a result, I was forced to take a job in a supermarket. Now I work 46 hours a week and earn $140 a month. Under these circumstances, I will never make it to France. That's why I decided to start this fundraiser.

Hi, I'm Basti!

I'm a friend of Shaghayegh from Germany. Unfortunately, it has become really difficult to send money directly to someone in Iran. Crowdfunding platforms like Gofundme don't accept our fundraiser. That's why I'm helping out. You can transfer money to my PayPal account or my German bank account and I will take all the additional steps to make sure it reaches Shaghayegh in Iran.

Stay updated

You want to know how Shaghayegh's journey evolves? We'll keep you updated on the fundraiser and Shaghayegh will write dispatches to all interested donors. Hopefully from France!

How much money is needed, for what?

Right now Shaghayegh needs 3500 € to pay the registration fee of the language institute. She will also need some savings to cover living expenses for the first few months in France in 2025, until she finds a job. We were already able to pay the immigration lawyer (necessary in Iran), visa fees, costs for the translation of documents, etc.

What do donors get in return?

We'll keep you in the loop: Shaghayegh will write dispatches from France to all of you who help to make her dream come true. We'll provide you with news about the fundraiser, too. So if you want to know how Shaghayegh's journey evolves, just tell us your e-mail address when you make your PayPal donation (right at the top of the donation form).

How do I get updates on Shaghayegh's journey?

Via e-mail. Just fill in your e-mail address right at the top of the PayPal donation form.

Can I send a bank wire?

Yes! You can transfer money to Basti's German bank account. Please e-mail us at shaghayegh@bbernarding.com and we'll provide you with all the details.

Why don't you start a Gofundme?

We've tried, but Gofundme didn't approve our fundraiser because of the sanctions imposed on Iran.

Can I trust you?

In the end, this is up to you. We understand that it is somewhat unusual to ask for money without using a crowdfunding platform. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only option available to us. We would prefer to use a platform like Gofundme, but because of the sanctions they would not help us raise money that will ultimately go to Iran. If you have any doubts, you can e-mail us at shaghayegh@bbernarding.com and we'll talk about it.
